James Mansour Obituary

James Elias Mansour, a lifelong resident of Newnan, died at his home on January 15, 2015, surrounded by his loving family and caregivers. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Rose Marie (Nohra) Mansour; son, Jeffrey Gerard Mansour; daughter-in-law, Karen Elizabeth (Hechler) Mansour; grandson, Ethan James Mansour and granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Mansour of Grantville, Georgia; brothers-in-law, Samuel Nohra, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, and Leon Nohra of Gretna, Louisiana; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Arthur David Mansour.

James was born on June 10, 1922, the last surviving sibling of the late Ellis and Effie (Jabaley) Mansour. A retired clothing merchant, he and his family owned and operated Newnan Dry Goods and Ellis Mansour Department Store on Newnan's Court Square. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp during WWII and was an avid golfer, tennis and card player. He was a devoted member of St. George Catholic Church, started in the home of his parents in the early 1920's, Knights of Columbus, St. George Men's Club, Jr. Chamber of Commerce, Newnan Civitan, Newnan Retail Merchants Assoc., Cedar Clubs of Atlanta, Elks Club, and Newnan Country Club. James and Rose Marie were longtime supporters of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, following the extended treatment of their son, Art.

He was known by many names—James, Jimmy, Unc, Jiddo, and Uncle James. No matter what anyone called him, he was the same sweet, loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to all who knew him. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, especially enjoying the younger children who would come to visit.

The family extends special thanks to James' doctors, nurses and caregivers for their tireless efforts and support.

Visitation will be at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan, Georgia, on Sunday, January 18, 2015, from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a Rosary. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, January 19, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church with Father Henry Atem officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
