Emma Chamberlain Obituary

Emma Chamberlain, 78, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 10, 2012, in La Jolla, California. Emma was born in El Paso, Texas where she grew up with her parents and six brothers and sisters. After marrying, she moved to California where she lived most of her life as a long-time resident of La Jolla. Emma was a very active member of the community. As a young wife and mother, she was a member of the San Diego Junior League. She owned and operated a small gift store in La Jolla village for several years and later owned a successful property management business.
Emma had a zest for life that included many interests. Gardening was a passion and she loved creating beautiful arrangements for her house and others. She was an active member of the La Jolla Garden Club where she shared her love of flowers and helped with fundraising to provide scholarships to local community colleges.
For many years, she enjoyed skiing, tennis and traveling to many parts of the world. She was an excellent cook and loved entertaining friends and family at her home. Emma also enjoyed being a member of the Bridge Club and spending that time with her close friends.
Emma was a board member at Windemere where she lived from 1976 to 1997 as well as served on the board for several years at her current home.
Emma was a champion of her Mexican heritage and of immigrant rights. She was a generous person who volunteered her time and funds to many organizations including St. Vincent de Paul, various organizations that assisted women and children in need, as well as volunteered her time to teach English. She was an ambassador for many and an eternally gracious lady who will be missed by all.
Emma is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Chamberlain. She is survived by her sons Chuck (wife Nancy) and Rene (wife Amy) as well as her much enjoyed and loved grandchildren, Alex, Samantha, Marco, Odessa and Betano; several close nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Dear Rene,Chuck, Family,
So sad to hear of Emma's passing. Remember so many wonderful fun filled times I shared with her. A beautiful Lady, classy, great humor, generous, thoughtful, she could razzle dazzle the best of them. Toasted many glasses of VO with her over what ever the conversation was, always full of laughs, wonderful load laughs where the tears run down your face.
She never will be gone, won't see her, but she will always be there.
I embrace you , I loved her and I will celebrate her life the rest of my life.
Much Love,
Cherie Jones

Dear Family of Emma,
I am so very sorry and heartbroken to hear of Emma's passing. She was my beloved next door neighbor at Crystal Bay in La Jolla. We had just spoken recently about getting together for lunch when she came to San Francisco the next time where I now live. Emma was a gracious, loving and beautiful woman who loved her family so very much. She will be very missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. I will carry her in my heart always.
