Gary Smith Obituary

MSG., Gary L. Smith 1942-2010 MSG., Gary L. Smith, Air National Guard (Ret.), 68, of Windsor Locks husband of Linda McGarr - Smith entered into Eternal Rest on Monday, December 20, 2010 at Hartford Hospital. Gary was born May 16, 1942, in Ludlow, Mass., the son of the late John and Marjorie (Moxom) Smith. Gary's military career spanned 32 years. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War and later enlisted in the Conn., Air National Guard retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant in 2002. He was the owner and operator of Garlesco Communications for many years and retired in 2009 from Landry Communications. Gary was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and also a member of the American Legion Gensi-Viola Post 36 in Windsor Locks. In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by his children, Laura Farrell and her husband, William of Kentucky, Shannon Dickinson, and her husband, Ranie of Somers, Laury Smith of Missouri, Becky Smith, Heather McGarr both of Windsor Locks and Kevin McGarr of Norwich. Gary is also survived by his siblings, Judy Fyfe and her husband, Don of Pittsfield, Elaine Hunter and her husband, David of Lenox, Allen Smith and his wife, Bette of Lenox, and Joanne O'Connor and her husband, Mark of New Hampshire and 14 grandchildren. Gary's family would like to thank the staff on CB2 at Hartford Hospital for the compassionate care Gary received. FUNERAL NOTICE: Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Thursday, December 23, 2010, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A funeral service for Gary will be celebrated on Friday, December 24, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 470 Elm St., Windsor Locks. (Please meet at the church) Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of Gary may be made to the American Lung Association National Headquarters, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Suite 800. Washington, DC 20004. I am so sorry for your loss. Gary (Landry Communications)was a vendor when I worked at 3030 Park and we became and remained friends for the last 10+ years.
I am going to miss the man who always had a smile and a joke each time I saw or spoke to him.
