William Raymond Bill' Lotherington December 3, 1921 - May 5, 2018 La Jolla William Raymond Lotherington, age 96, passed away in the home of his son, William R. "Duke" Lotherington, in Wildomar on May 5, 2018. Born in Detroit, MI on December 3, 1921, Bill was the son of William and Ethel Mae Davis Lotherington. He grew up in Detroit and graduated from Cass Tech High School and from Wayne State University, with a degree in chemistry. He was an only child.Bill married Edna Merle Rust of Fairmont, WV in the First Methodist Church of Fairmont on June 28, 1959. She was a public school art teacher in East Detroit. Bill enjoyed boxing and dancing and was an avid tennis player. He and friends often played tennis each morning. He was also a private pilot and owned his own planes, which he used for business travel and he and Mrs. Lotherington used for private travel. Socially, they were active members of the Skylarks Flying Club of Southern California. As a professional chemist, he established the Custom Organic Synthesis Chemical Company in Detroit which manufactured research chemicals for universities and other chemical companies and became known as Kaplop Laboratories. When the Lotheringtons moved from Birmingham, MI to Temecula, CA, his company was the 3rd business established in the industrial park of Temecula. Prior to running his own business, he worked as a vertical turret lathe operator and during World War II served in the US Army as a link trainer instructor.He is survived by his wife; his son, William Raymond III, and wife Deborah KyungSun You; and grandchildren, Sarah YoungMi, William Raymond IV, Emeline Merle and Raymond Young.It was Bill's desire to have no public viewing or service.
