Arthur Otto Aerne of Zion, IL passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015. He was born March 28, 1924 in Granite City, IL, the son of Henry O. Aerne and Rose (DeGonia) Aerne. Art was a graduate of Granite City High School and married Delores (Moser) Aerne on August 10, 1946. In June 1946 Arthur was honorably discharged from the U.S Marine Corps after serving in WWII. Arthur worked as an Electrical Engineer and took early retirement from Motorola. In 1971¿ he and his wife purchased the Hobby Barn in Antioch which they ran until 1981. He was active in the AARP All Stars and an avid duplicate bridge player until 2014. From 1981 until 2005, Art traveled throughout the United States with his wife Lori in a motor home. They were snow birds between Lake Villa, IL and Casa Grande, AZ. From 2010 until 2014, they lived in Bristol, WI, moving to Rolling Hills Place, Assisted Living Center in November of 2014, at which time, Lori shortly passed away. Arthur is survived by four children, Toni (Bill) Woodmaster of Lake Villa, IL, Louis Aerne of Lake Villa, IL, Gary (Debbie) Aerne of Lake Villa, IL, and Robin (Suzy) Aerne of Lake Villa, IL; eleven grandchildren, Joel (Tracy), Ian, Nathan (Kristin), Dominic (Amy), Matthew, Layla (Rolf), David (Laura), Laura (Rich), Nicole, Taylor, and Kyle; ten great-grandchildren; his sister Rosalee (Al) Hoelter; his brother Walter (Lucille); and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his wife, Art was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Thomas, a brother Clarence, sister Anna Mae Foster. A memorial visitation will begin at 3:30PM Friday July 31, 2015 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) with a celebration of his life including military honors commencing at 6PM. I am so sorry for your loss. The bible gives us hope for the peopoe we've lost. In Hosea 13:14 it talks about a time when death will not have dominance over anyone any more.
