Dorothy Waugh Obituary

Waugh, Dorothy Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on July 19, 2012. She was born on April 8, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio and grew up in Lake County, IL. She married Eugene Waugh in 1954 and made a home in Waukegan, IL where they raised their family. She was an avid golfer, owned her own motorcycle and had a passion for sewing, boating and travel. Dorothy worked in the medical profession most of her adult life. Her duties varied over time from a doctor's office receptionist to phlebotomy to x-ray technician. She had the privilege and honor to travel to New York City in the aftermath of 911 and also to help test for anthrax in the days following. She had an incredible ability to find good in the bad and shed a positive light on any given situation. Dorothy lived her life by the motto of: "If it ain't fun, I'm not having it" and she held true to that in everything she did. She had a kind, cheerful presence with a fun loving spirit and a mischievous twinkle in her eye. She was a feisty woman, who was strong-willed, proudand took life head-on. She was a hard worker, but never forgot how to play. When Dorothy set her mind to something, it happened. We know she wouldn't want us to mourn her passing, but to celebrate her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ethel Burris; brother, Fred Burris and husband, Eugene Waugh. She is survived by her sister, Edith Burris of Twin Lakes, WI; her brother, Ray Burris of Waukegan, IL; her son, Gregory (Vicki) Waugh of Twin Lakes, WI; her daughter, Lorinda (Steve) Schroeder of Richmond, IL; her beloved nephew, Jeff (Barb) Waugh of Adams, WI; her grandchildren, Brennen Schroeder, Dustin (Kara) Waugh, Kelly Waugh, and Krysti Schroeder and her future great-granddaughter Addison Clark Waugh. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Monday and 10-11 am, Tuesday at Marsh Funeral Home of Gurnee. Funeral service will be 11 am, Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Marsh Funeral Home of Gurnee, 305 Cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL. Burial atNorthshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. Funeral Information: 847-336-0127.

Dorothy Burris was the first person that I met when I moved to Waukegan in June 1951. She and her family lived across the street from us on DeWoody Road. We were Seniors at Zion Benton Township High School. She stood with me at the bus stop, and "guided " me to a new experiece in Illinois. Thank you, Dorothy--until we meet again. Rest in peace, Joan Johnston Tomkovick

I have never met Dorothy but her spirit will live on through such a beautiful and heart warming family. May she rest in peace and be friends with my mother in the beautiful heavens above.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Dorothy, but if a person is in any way measured by their children and grandchildren, her legacy is as great as any Poet or King.

The last time I saw Dorothy Waugh was 35 years ago at a wedding. I also remember her when our Boy Scout patrol meeting was at the Waugh home, with Greg, on Graves Av in Waukegan. I was saddened to hear of her passing. Mike Berger
