Lois E. Helland

Helland, Lois E. 89 years old of Lake Villa, IL passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at her home. She was born January 15, 1923 in Chicago, IL the daughter of the late Elmer and Erna (Ufer) Wenk. She had lived in Jefferson Park, Chicago for several years, settling in Lake Villa in 1968. Lois proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a WAC Corporal. She was a 70 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and had also served as Past Honored Queen of Job's Daughters. Lois was lovingly known as the "Manhattan drinking boat racer". Survivors include her children, Richard (Julie) Helland of West Chicago, IL, and Debbie Jones of Steward/Lake Villa, IL; four grandchildren, Kristopher, Kymberly, Jacqueline, and Kathryn; and two great-grandchildren, Devlen and Treyton; and nephews, Dick and Bob and their families, and a niece, Pat and her family. In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by a brother, Roland Wenk, and her great aunt and uncle, Bill and Marty Ufer. Funeral and Order of Eastern Star services will be held at 12 Noon Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch, IL with visitation beginning at 9AM.
