I just learned of Mary's passing today. Mary was my first cousin...once removed. She was a delightful person--smart, interesting and sharp as a tack! Despite the fact that she had a huge Fincutter extended family, she knew about her "extended, extended" family. About three years ago I stopped by for a visit and Mary asked me how my work with youth was going and then asked about each of my brothers...by name. She was 95 then! I noticed the comments by students--she always spoke about her experiences teaching. It is so nice to read that she was a "favorite" teacher to many.
Mary loved strawberries and seemed to like my pepper steak and Christmas cookies. I kept thinking in the last few months that I needed to stop and see her and bring her some kind of treat. I regret that I did not follow through with my good intentions. Prayers are being said for Mary. I am sure she is having a grand reunion in heaven with her immediate and extended Fincutter and Rudd family members. God Bless you Mary Fincutter--you were a kind and generous person!

I'll always remember Miss Fincutter as my favorite teacher, first grade at South School. She taught me to read. My brother, sister and I ran into her several years ago and she remembered every one of us from school. God bless her and may she rest in peace. She was one of the most wonderful teachers ever and will always be remembered.

I often thought about what happened to her or where she lived. She was my teacher at South school in North Chicago. She was my favorite teacher and remember her very vividly. She was so sweet and nice to all the kids, we just loved her. My sympathy goes out to all her family.

If this is the same Ms. Fincutter...she was my teacher in Oakdale school~Wkgn. I think it was the 3rd grade 1978. Oh the stories! She was classified as strict~and she was. Clog shoes were the big thing in my day, big no no in her book, you'd walk in your socks. Lol! She wanted the girls to act like ladies and the boys to act like good men. She taught us that! We could use more teachers like her these days! Over the years, I have thought about her occasionally & honestly~ I have always considered her Thee Best Teacher I ever had! R.I.P.

My mom is Lorraine Dellaposta and she was in Mary's room for a while but is now next door to her room. I would always stop and say Hi to Mary and talk with Mary every time I would come to visit my mom. I have been praying for Mary to be at peace. I remember her and Margaret when I worked in Waukegan. I celebrate her new life with all her family who have gone before her.
