I was a youth volunteer on Dougs ward years ago. Will always remember the lasting impression he left on me, the leadership skills he taught me as well that led to a 20 year Naval career. Thanks Doug for caring about me. I actually persevered because of you. You will be sorely missed.

Doug was my first nurse manager at the Bay Pines VA. He had the biggest heart, always coming to the aid of others. I have dozens of good memories of Doug, but one that stands out is him introducing me to Scott many years ago. He was so proud of his son. Doug always spoke of himself and Scott as a team. My sincere sympathy to all of Doug's loved ones.

Katie and family - I was so surprised and saddened to hear about Doug's passing. He was one of the most compassionate, caring people I've ever known and one of the absolute best nurses on the planet. That compassion also extended to the animals both you and he devoted your lives to....I know there was a crowd at the Rainbow Bridge when he got there! With love and sympathy...

Doug was one of those rare individuals who always stood out from others. A caring and dedicated nurse who's attitude and sense of humor made everyone's day better. When I read of his death, I felt a true sense of loss, not just of a friend but of an individual who made a difference in this world. When I was working at the Bay Pines Medical Center there were over 2000 employees. If you mentioned the name "Doug Rooney" people knew who you were talking about, he was that good at what he did!
