Russell J. Hansen

Russell Jess Hansen, 80, of Lake City, Florida, died on Sunday June 13, 2013 at home surrounded by family.  A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday June 13, 2013, at Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home, 458 S. Russ was born in Chicago, Illinois, December 12, 1932 to the late Frank L. Hansen and the former Fannie A. Nichols.  He was an only child and lived most of his childhood on a large family farm in Peebles, Ohio, and raised his family in Fairborn, Ohio.  He graduated from Fairborn High School in 1949, received his degree in Fire Science from Sinclair College in 1979.  He faithfully served his country in the US Navy (1950-1954) Seabees during the Korean Conflict.  He retired in September 1983 from Wright Patterson Air Force Base Fire Department.  During his 27 years with WPAFB Fire Department, he was a firefighter, served as Unit Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, and Chief of Fire Training.  He relocated to this area in 1983, and worked at Safety Systems, Inc. for 8 years.  He enjoyed auto racing, camping, creating stories to entertain his children.
Russ Hansen was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene R. Porter Hansen after 37 years of marriage.  He is survived by his second wife of almost 20 years, Betty J. Cheshire Roberts Hansen, two daughters: Hazel Hansen (Gary) Fugate of Morehead, Kentucky, and Laura Hansen (Richard) Patrick of Jacksonville, Florida; three sons:  Ronnie Roberts of Bell, Florida; Glen Roberts of Lake City, Florida; and Timmy (Tamsie) Roberts of McAlpin, Florida; 14 grandchildren: Jade McGhghy (John) McFeely; Will Keesee; Josh Fugate; Tadd Roberts; Chris (Karissa) Roberts;  Megan Roberts;  Josh (Kristin) Roberts; Jaime Roberts; Kyle Roberts; Katie Roberts; Zach Roberts; Brandon (Jamie) Roberts; Jordan Roberts; and Pamela Porter; and 10 great-grandchildren.
