1948 - 2023

Sandra Ruth Wilson Benns 74, residing in Ft. Worth, Texas, entered eternal rest October 25, 2023, at Heart 2 Heart Hospice Center, Ft. Worth, TX. She was born December 26, 1948, in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Mamie Cole Wilson and Robert Wilson. Sandra was educated in both the Columbia County and Newport News school system. She retired from General Electric Corporation and Newport News School System. Sandra was a longtime resident of Lake City, FL, accepting Christ at an early age. She absolutely loved the Lord; she was a former member of Soul's Harbor Church of God in Christ, Lake City, FL, Faith Temple COGIC, Hampton, VA, and a charter member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Lake City, FL, under Pastor Dwight Pollock. Sandra was loved by so many people. She had a very sweet spirit and was well known as "The Hat Lady". She was the owner of San's Hat Shop in downtown Lake City, FL. Precedents in death includes parents; sisters, Roberta Rollins, and Mae Holly Griffin; brothers, Freddie, Curtis, Leroy, and Robert Jr. Wilson; grandmother, Leila "Granny" Wells.
Sandra leaves to cherish her memories: children, Larissa Harris, Fort Worth, TX, Wardell Leggon, Jr., Newport News, VA, Kenrick Leggon, Lake City, FL, and Marion Leggon, Walker, MI; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Bobbie Martin, Jacksonville, FL, Lelia Wilson, Marion Colon (Angel), Lake City, FL; brother, Jerome "J.B." (Sylvia), Jacksonville, FL; bonus daughters, Janice and Michelle Leggon, Stephanie Jones (Jay); goddaughter, Nita Smith-Murchison; godson, Lenard Bailey; very close friends, Shirley Gary, Lillian Bailey; loving cousins, the Wilson family; hosts of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Sandra's life will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, 541 NE Davis Ave., Lake City, FL.
Visitation will be from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 3, 2023, at the funeral home.
