Frank Bogyos Obituary

Frank Steven Bogyos

December 31, 1926 - December 10, 2025

Frank Steven Bogyos, age 98, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Pinebrook Pointe, Burlington just shy of his 99th birthday. He was born in Racine the 4th of 5 children and the only son of the late Frank and Julia (Nee: Gulyas) Bogyos.

Frank graduated from Wm Horlick High School "Class of 1945". After graduation he was inducted into the US Army where he was assigned to the occupation forces in Japan and served with the 11th Airborne Division as a qualified paratrooper and gliderman. On February 4, 1950, at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Racine, he was united in marriage to Florence Caynak and they celebrated 74 years when Florence passed May 31, of last year.

Frank was an optician working for Ransom Opticians, then Dr. Savin Vision Clinic before opening his own business, Lake Geneva Opticians in 1976 retiring in 1996. Frank was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, the American Legion in Burlington, the Boy Scouts of America, and a 25-year member of the Kiwanis Club of Lake Geneva. He was a volunteer with the Wisconsin Veterans Home and VA Clinic at Union Grove. He enjoyed working in his yard and garden, landscaping to incorporate the natural feel of the property. He relaxed by building robust fires and watching deer roam past. If there was a fire, there was also wine and the traditional family and friend's favorite, "greasy bread". His love of his Hungarian heritage fueled a multitude of travels to connect with family overseas and inspired the subject of the majority of his paintings. He participated in fencing as of just last year. He had almost abandoned the sport due to work and family responsibilities. Frank reignited his talent as an artist mid-life and perfected his art to the next level from earlier works. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, wit, and storytelling abilities. Above all he treasured time spent with his family. He was a devoted, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his children, Julie (Dennis) Ricchio, Frank (Lorraine) Bogyos, and Cathy Erikson; grandchildren, Ann Ricchio, Angela Ricchio and Brandon Bogyos; great granddaughter, Sahana Beri; other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Tim Erikson; and sisters, Anne (Ernest) Gayhart, Rosemary (John) Treiber, Julie (Louie) Biksey, and Margaret (Bill) Treiber.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2025, 11am at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 40 Ohio St. with Rev. Jenny Gleichauf officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet prior to the service 10-11 am. Memorials to Covenant Presbyterian Church or the Veterans Home at Union Grove have been suggested.

A very special thank you to the staff at Pinebrook Pointe and Brighton Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
