David Clark Obituary

David D. Clark

Lancaster - David Drummond Clark of Lancaster, passed quietly at The Ohio State University Medical Center on Friday night.

Dave was born and raised in Shaker Heights, Ohio. The middle of three children born to Mr. and Mrs. Noble (Frances) Baxter Clark, Sr.

A 1958 graduate of Shaker Heights High School and accomplished baseball player, Dave went on to Ohio University in Athens, to earn his Bachelor Degree in Business, graduating in 1962. In June of 1963, Dave married his bride, Bonnie Carolyn Shaver. He worked for Anchor Hocking International from 1963 until he became self-employed in the mid-70s, when he founded Super Scoop Ice Cream & Candy. He later purchased Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips, just a few doors down from Super Scoop on Memorial Drive. In running the two businesses for more than 25 years, he taught his family the importance of relentless hard work. In his retirement, Dave spent his time enjoying his grandchildren, learning new technologies, and traveling with his sons each year to Winterhaven, Florida for the Cleveland Indian's Spring Training.

Dave is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Bonnie Clark. As well as his parents, his sister Maryann, brother Nobe, Father-in-law Maurice (Jay) Shaver, and Mother-in-Law Beulah Ruth (Pyle) Shaver; as well as his wife's siblings Patricia Kern and Lawrence Paul Shaver.

Dave is survived by his children, the "Dave Clark Five": Jennifer Clark Justus (John) of Worthington, Tyler David Clark of Springboro, Mitsi Clark Niceswanger (Brian) of Lancaster, Corey Baxter Clark (Jen) of Lancaster, and Toby Adam Clark (Molly) of Upper Arlington. Dave and Bonnie always wanted a large family, and their adult lives were dedicated to raising their brood of five and being a strong influence, and an enormous presence, in their adult lives and those of their 15 grandchildren: Heather, Kati, Kyle, and Derek Justus; Carolina and Carly Clark; Madeline, Bennett, and Jay Niceswanger; Colten Baxter and Savannah Clark; Caleigh and Zoe Bellot, Calvin David and Hadley Clark.

Per his wishes, there will not be a funeral. Like his wife before him, Dave requested his body be donated to his alma-mater, Ohio University, to further studies at the Heritage School of Osteopathic Medicine. His family will celebrate his life privately, and will always miss his love of family, his ornery humor, his passion for the newest gadgets, and his ability to fix (or glue) absolutely anything that breaks around the house.

He believed strongly in traditional values, and his children consider themselves very fortunate to have had him as their dad and for the wonderful upbringing their parents provided.

My sincere condolences to the family. Super Scoop was my first place of employment. Many fond memories scooping along side Mr. Clark and Jennifer. The long lines we served on “roll back the prices” to 25cent a scoop days! He always gave back to the community.

Dave was my 1st landlord back in 1973 at 851 E. Wheeling St. and I remember when I lost my keys to the apartment, called Dave and he said come out to the house on Crestview and he gave me a key. Such a very nice person and landlord. John Hoch

He was one of the nicest people I had ever met. I rented a house from him in the seventies and couldn’t ask for a nicer landlord. Prayers for his family.

Bonnie and Dave’s wedding was the first wedding I ever went to. All week I have been having flashbacks of how happy they were that day and how proud and happy Aunt Beulah and Uncle Jay were! Thanks for the great memories!
