John Francis Longpre Jr.

John Francis Longpre Jr. 1947- 2021 John Francis Longpre Jr. passed away on May 25, 2021, in Humble, Texas at the age of 73 of complications from pulmonary fibrosis.

He was born and raised in Laramie, was a graduate of Laramie High School in 1966 and attended the University of Wyoming. John owned and operated Longpre Distributors in Laramie until 1998. He continued to reside in Laramie until 2002, when he and his wife Kathy moved to Humble, TX to be closer to their family.

As a child, John was involved in many sports and activities. He was a baseball all-star as a child but passed up on baseball due to his love for the game of golf. He competed in local and state tournaments for decades, won multiple Jacoby Park Golf Course Club Championships, Laramie City Championships and was Wyoming State Mid-Amateur champion in 1992. John and the rest of the Longpre family were inducted into the Wyoming State Golf Association Hall of Fame. John served on the Wyoming State Golf Association for many years, was a panelist for Golf Digest magazine's 100 greatest golf courses and worked in the golf business as a custom club fitter and sales professional until his retirement in 2015. John also served on the board of directors for Golfers Against Cancer, an organization founded partially due to his son Mike's battle with cancer.

John was a longtime supporter of University of Wyoming athletics and Laramie charities and organizations. He will also be remembered as an avid bowler, card player and a member of the Elks, and Moose fraternal clubs as well as the Laramie Jaycees.

The only thing John loved more than his numerous hobbies and sports was his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

John is preceded in death by his parents, John (Jack) and Eva Longpre, younger brother Timothy, and his son Mike Longpre. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Longpre; son, Kevin Longpre; grandsons Lance Cpl. Michael Longpre, Jacob Longpre and John Longpre; brothers George Longpre, Dave Longpre & his wife Flo Longpre, sister Jeanne Longpre McCue and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 18 at 10:00am at St. Laurence O'Toole Catholic Church. A celebration of life will follow at the Laramie Elks Club.
