Myra Hanna Obituary
Myra was born October 16, 1927 in Wheatland, Wyoming. She went to rural school at the ranch, and graduated from University Prep and the University of Wyoming. Myra Flaharty and Elwood Hanna were married in 1952 and they worked for John & Marie Bell before buying the PR5 ranch from Myra's parents and her brother. They later bought part of the Rosentreter ranch which included Myra's grandfather's and mother's homesteads. Myra loved the ranch, riding and and working cattle into her 80's. In 2006, the PR5 ranch was recognized as a Wyoming 100 year Centennial Ranch.
Myra and Elwood had a daughter, Susan, who married Martin Weaklim and they had two children, Julia and Ian. Myra loved her family and enjoyed having them help on the ranch and go to Stockshow, Frontier Days, the NFR, Cowboys games and other events with her.
Myra was the Grand Marshall for the Platte County Fair & Rodeo parade in 2016. Myra held several offices in the Laramie Peak, Albany County and Wyoming Cattlewomen's groups. She wrote the Barbie-Q column for the Wheatland and Laramie newspapers with stories about ranch life. Myra was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the was the Grand Representative to Texas from Wyoming. She was a member of the Wheatland United Methodist Church.
Myra was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Myrtle Flaharty, her husband Elwood, and her brother Cliff Flaharty. She is survived by her daughter Susan (Martin), and grandchildren Julia (Mike) and Ian (Katya).
Memorials may be made to the Albany County Cow-belle Scholarship Fund in memory of Myra Hanna, P.O. Box 2157, Laramie, WY 82073.
Services will be held Friday, October 17, 2025 at the First Christian Church, 95 19th St., Wheatland, Wyoming at 11 AM with internment at the Wheatland Cemetery, followed by lunch at the church.
The Gorman Funeral Homes - Platte Chapel of Wheatland is in charge of the arrangements.
