It is announced with a heavy heart that Marianita Lujan passed away at home at the age of 95 on Saturday, April 17, 2021.
She was born on April 18, 1925 to Teodoro Valdez and Josefita Valdez in Tecolote, N.M.
Marianita was joined in marriage to Fidel Lujan Sr. on December of 1940 and moved to Ojitos Frios, N.M. where they raised 11 children.
When not ranching and farming she was caring for her family. Marianita earned certification as a child-care provider from Luna Community College and Highlands University, ran a private Grocery store, and helped out at the Ojitos Frios Post Office.
She enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends. She loved to dance and occasionally try her luck at the Casinos.
Marianita was a lifelong Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, N.M. She was a very generous and fun-loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fidel Lujan; sons, Roldon Lujan and Fernando Lujan; daughters, Petra Urvenejo and Frances Esquibel; sisters, Eloisa Montoya, Francisquita Aragon and Gregoria Montoya; brother Ausencio Valdez; sons-in-law, Dale Bollman and Robert Urvenejo; grandkids, Lilly Lujan, Andrew Bollman, Aneda Lujan and Blaine Hendrix.
She is survived by her sons and daughters, Ernesto Lujan (Gloria) of Los Vigiles, N.M., Fidel Lujan Jr., of Ojitos Frios, N.M., Diana Bollman of Harmon, Ill., Orlando Lujan Sr. and Josefita Lujan of Ojitos Frios, N.M., Dora Martinez (Ernest) of Las Vegas, N.M, and Veronica Lujan (Ruben) of San Pablo, N.M.; 34 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Dorothy Lujan of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister Ageda Chavez of Moriarty, N.M.; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family extends deep gratitude to Gloria Baca for many years of high-quality in-home care.
Public viewing will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 12 p.m.-5 p.m.
Rosary services will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, N.M. with Father Rob Yaksich as celebrant. Funeral service will be live streamed on the Our Lady of Sorrows Church Facebook, or You Tube Our Lady of Sorrows Church. You may also listen to it on 105.5 fm radio station.
Due to COVID-19, masks must be worn and social distancing is required for all services.
Pallbearers include Leonard Lujan, Marvin Lujan, Orlando Lujan Jr., Steven Esquibel, Anthony Bollman and Chavela Montoya. Honorary bearers include all of her remaining grandchildren, great-grandchildren.
Interment will take place on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 11:15 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M.
