Baer, Alice Pasternak (85)
Died peacefully July 14, 2002, after a brief illness. She will be fondly remembered by her family and a host of friends as a woman of uncommon vigor and intelligence, who, almost to the end sought to improve her mind, her tennis game, her understanding of contemporary culture (which often challenged her concepts of art and civilization), and the lives of the children she taught through the LAUSD, counseled as an MFCC, and tutored in reading. Her husband, Max, died in 1998. She is survived by her sons, Thomas Baer of Iowa City, Philip Baer of North Hollywood, her daughters, Kathryn Baer of Washington, D.C. and Marjorie Baer of Berkeley; her brother, Samuel Post, of Wicksford, RI; as well as two granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration will be held at the family home in August. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Plato Society of UCLA or the USC/Kenneth Norris Jr. Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hospital.
