Allen Salick Obituary

October 18, 1935 - November 21, 2021 Allen Ira Salick, MD, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on November 21, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 18, 1935, in a part of the lower east side of New York that he affectionately referred to as "the shtetl." Allen was the first of three children born to Romanian parents Max Martin and Blanche Salick. High achieving and intellectually eager, Allen skipped two grades, and graduated from Stuyvestant High School at the age of 16. He went on to Hobart College where he was captain of the debate team, and then medical school at the University of Zurich in Switzerland. He served our country as a doctor in the US Army Air Force Reserves. Allen was a respected and dedicated rheumatologist in private practice, and also maintained a commitment to teaching and training. He was on UCLA medical clinical staff, and conducted rounds at Cedars Sinai Hospital. Allen served as President of the Cedars Sinai Alumni Association.

Allen is predeceased by his parents and by his wife Candace Salick. Allen will be missed by his later life partner Gwen Uman; daughter Adrienne Salick (Rick Milewski), sons Matt Salick and Nicholas Salick; Gwen's son Russell (Ellen); grandchildren Amelia, Georgia, Jackson, Griffin, and Heron; brother Bernard; sister Renee; sisters-in-law Gloria, Suzie, and Jane; nieces and nephews and their respective spouses and children, Gabriela, Elizabeth, Anna Martine, Alex, Josh, Rebecca, Solange, and Johnny; and countless extended family and friends.

Allen loved to travel - from luxurious trips in Europe to bare bones backpacking trips in the High Sierras, from romantic getaways in the tropics to skiing trips with "the boys." An epicure, Allen knew good wine and bourbon and delighted in fine food. He appreciated art, admired jazz and classical music, read books voraciously, and surprised himself by becoming an artist in his 70's. He was adored by his family members, longtime friends, colleagues, and patients. We will miss his love, generosity, infectious laugh, companionship, great stories, and of course his dry martinis and steaks cooked to perfection. Allen will live forever in the hearts of all those who shared his life, spirit, and his enthusiasm for all good things. Services are Wednesday November 24, 2021 at 10:00 am, at Mount Sinai Memorial Parks & Mortuaries – Hollywood Hills, (800) 600-0076. Donations in Allen's memory may be made to The Special Olympics (www.sosc.org).

Just found out that Dr. Salick is now an "angel". He was one of the most kind, smart, thorough and professional doctors I have ever been treated by. I have been unable to find another treating doctor who seems to be able to fill his shoes. While his passing is a very painful loss to his family & friends, I believe his many patients are also in tears, but so grateful for the care & treatment he provided us. May peace be found by all & may good & happy memories be cherished.
