Alvin DeBre' Obituary

Bre'', Alvin Jack De
March 22, 1922 - August 29, 2011
A dedicated and accomplished dentist who continued to practice dentistry up until he passed away on August 29, 2011 in Los Angeles at the age of 89. He took great pride in his work and found joy in his relationships with patients.
Born in Marshall, Texas, Al attended Texas A&M University and graduated from the University of Texas, School of Dentistry. He served in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps, Fleet Marine Force ?? Pacific, deployed in Tsingtao and Tientsin, China after WWII. Al was a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and President of the Los Angeles County Dental Society. He taught Prosthodontics at USC Dental School and authored articles published in several dental journals. Al was in private practice for 59 years, specializing in Prosthodontics, with offices in Westchester, Hollywood and Los Angeles. Recently, he was an expert witness in dental malpractice cases and a certified auditor of dental office quality.
Al was a man of great wisdom and artistic skill, a kind, authentic and loving husband, father and grandfather, and a generous and beloved friend. He had an insatiable appetite for learning and pursued hobbies with the same passion as he pursued his profession. He cultivated expertise in freshwater fishing, numismatics, photography, tennis, and breeding African Cichlids, among other pursuits. He observed Judaism throughout his life, but was also a student of philosophy and Eastern religions. Al is survived by his wife Susan; sons Greg and Kevin; stepdaughter Michelle Meyerson; stepson Neal Gold; daughter-in-law Andrea Malin; son-in-law Robert Meyerson; four grandchildren ?? Isabel DeBre', Elena DeBre', Colin DeBre' and Simon Meyerson, loyal companion Daisy and others, too numerous to mention, who dearly loved him.
A private memorial service will be held September 5, 2011. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the California Dental Association Foundation www.cdafoundation.org, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping underserved communities receive proper dental care and providing education grants to future dentists.

I was very saddened on being informed of Dr. DeBre;s passing. He has been my dentist since 1961 and also a great friend. We had many conversations together in which we solved all of the world's problems. I do express my condolences to the DeBre' family.
