Alvin Levine Obituary

Levine, Alvin A.
Alvin Levine, 82, was born in Poland on July 17, 1920. He passed away peacefully at his home in Rancho Mirage, California on August 7, 2002, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 61 years, Trudy Levine; his sister, Annette Pearson (Danny); and his two children, Diane Karp (Charles) and Jeffrey Levine (Lesley). He is also survived by nieces Betsy Appelbaum (Harold), Francine Richter (Jeffrey), Janice Dann (Burt), and their children; six grandchildren; Elizabeth Weinstein (Jeffrey), and Stephanie Karp, Matthew, Andrew, Michael and Eric Levine; and a great granddaughter, Zoe Weinstein; all of whom were very beloved by him. Alvin was known for many things. He was a courageous member of the 8th Air Force in WWII, flying over thirty bombing missions against the Nazis in Europe. He was a dynamic and successful businessman, creating Acme and later Freeway Truck Parts. He was the president of The Guardians and The Jewish Home for the Aged. He was appointed to The Los Angeles County Grand Jury. Mostly, he was known for his warmth, humor, philanthropy and decency. Alvin was never self-conscious. He was certain that everyone he met wanted to be his friend. Usually, he was right. The members of his family are grateful to the many friends who offered and provided support to him during his battle with cancer. Alvin loved life. He treasured each day and he did not yield his share of his blessed existence without a gritty fight. Services will be held Sunday, August 11th, at 1pm at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles. Donations in his memory may be made to: The Surgical Oncology Research and Education Fund at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, 8700 Beverly Boulevard, Los Angeles, California, 90048, or to The Lucy Curci Cancer Center at Eisenhower Medical Center, 39000 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage, California, 92270.

I worked for Mr. Levine at FreewayTruckParts in the 70´s to 80´s, wonderful man and a great boss! I was starting out in life and had to ask him for help, he asked no questions and then paid my rent telling me do not worry about paying me back until you are truly on your feet... I paid him 2 months later and then busted my rear end for him for the rest of his time at Freeway before retiring! I will never forget him helping me without reservation and have lived my life trying hard to pay that kindness forward. God bless you sir, the world is missing people like yourself. Rest in peace. Again Thank you for getting my life a head start.
