Anthony S. Kontzer

1966 - 2021

January 20, 1966 - December 27, 2021 Tony was born on January 20, 1966 to Jo and Edward Kontzer in Los Angeles CA. He is survived by his parents, his brother Greg (52); his sons, Jackson (24) Maxwell (12), and William (9); his beloved stepchildren, Alexandra (42) and Owen (37); one niece and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Tony received his bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 1988, and returned to California where he lived the remainder of his life. He was an avid jazz saxophonist, playing at various San Jose jazz clubs. He met his first wife, Roxann Cardinale in 1992, with whom he had his first son Jackson. Tony then worked for years as a journalist for the San Jose Business Journal and the magazine InformationWeek, shifting into freelance work after the untimely demise of his first wife. In 2008, Tony moved to Albany, CA where he met his second wife, Sarah Erwin, with whom he had his sons Maxwell and William. The family moved to Grass Valley, CA to experience a more rural lifestyle, where he pursued his interest in carpentry.
Tony was a modern renaissance man and a conversationalist of the first order. He loved to entertain, playing sax while visiting many countries both in Europe and Asia, and creating many family favorite culinary delights. He was also a huge sports fan, never hiding his love for the Patriots, White Sox, and 76ers. Tony made the best of the all-too short time he had. His close and loving family is heartbroken by his untimely death. A celebration of his life will take place later this year.
