Arla Jean Hildebrand Brown

Arla Brown Obituary

Brown, Arla Jean Hildebrand Died in Irvine last Friday. She was born in San Pedro and graduated from Glendale High School and Pomona College where she met her husband. She was married for 49 glorious years to DeVillo (D.V.) Wood Brown who preceded her in death. They raised three daughters and twin sons, all of whom survive her: JoNell Brown Rogers, Lucinda Brown McShane, Denslow Jean Tregarthen Brown, Randall James Brown and Bradford Louis Brown. She is also survived by daughters-in-law Hollie Brown, Debby Brown and Linda Sue Smith, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Arla and D.V. raised their family in La Canada Flintridge. In the mid-1970s they moved Bromar, the food brokerage business D.V. founded, to Newport Beach and lived in Laguna. The consummate homemaker, Arla also supported D.V. and Bromar at every level of success with her wisdom and creativity; she was also active in many non-profit and social organizations in the three communities mentioned. She was a beloved family member and friend, warm and accomplished hostess, great bridge player, determined golfer, and skilled interior decorator. A memorial Service for Arla will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 5, at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach. In lieu of flowers, you may prefer to donate to an organization Arla held dear: World Vision, Toys for Tots, The American Heart Association, Pomona College, Share Our Selves Food Kitchen or the Urea Cycle Disorders Foundation.
