Barbara Pallenberg Obituary

July 12, 1937 - April 4, 2024 Barbara passed away in her sleep surrounded by family and her loving companion Ana. She is survived by her sister Marilyn, husband Rospo, son Harry, daughter-in-law Ilyse, grandchildren Ella and Owen and those lucky to have her as a friend.
Smart, strong headed, and movie star attractive, she took on the world with confidence and in her own unique way. Wearing many hats throughout her life, she rose through the ranks at Sotheby's as an art appraiser and eventually ended up running the west coast office. She was a valued editor on her husband's screenplays, raised her son who gave her tremendous pride and helped support her working son and daughter-in-law by helping to raise her beloved grandchildren.
She loved cooking and hosting dinner parties for a who's who of the art and entertainment worlds in NYC and the Hollywood Hills. She found time to write two books: one about the making of the Exorcist II and the other about her passion for "guerrilla gardening", a technique that she used to grow her beautiful garden. She loved seeing the world and traveled on the Queen Mary as a teen, took a safari in Africa, saw all of Europe, scaled the ruins in Peru, trekked through the Costa Rican rain forrest and drank glacier water straight from the source in Alaska. She was grateful to see so much of the world and counts herself lucky to have shared these trips with the ones she loved. She lived a wonderful life and will be terribly missed, but will live on in her family's hearts and memories. As she herself said on her last night, "I've had a good run."

Just found out and am devastated. There was no woman in LA-or Rome or New York or anywhere else we had fun together- who could compare to Barbara, in brains, beauty, sophistication, wit, charm, and kindness. For someone who had it all, she was devoid of any pretense and had the best sense of lacerating humor. When anyone asked me how I can stand to live in LA, I had the perfect answer: Barbara and Rospo. The pandemic scrambled so many friendships and I will always regret putting off the joy of spending time with her that is now gone. I'll never forget her.
