Bernard Lynn Obituary

July 1926 - January 2015 Bernard Lynn, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all passed away in Beverly Hills, California on January 16, 2016. Born in Washington DC on July 27, 1926 to Miriam Sperling Lynn and Jacob Lynn, the fifth child of six. A graduate of the D.C. Public School System: MacFarland Junior High and Roosevelt High School. A United States Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Lynn graduated from George Washington University in 1950. He then became a certified gemologist in 1952, and joined his brother Sol at Lynn Jewelers - first on F Street NW, and later on 17th Street NW. They served clients from across Washington DC, including many members of the Diplomatic Corps, Congress and The White House. A Chai Board Member and Volunteer at The Jewish Social Service Agency for many years, Mr. Lynn was an active parent at Beauvoir, National Cathedral School and The University of Virginia. A Bar Mitzvah at Adas Israel, he was a fifty-year member of The Washington Hebrew Congregation. An avid sports fan, he formerly enjoyed membership at Norbeck and Woodmont Country Clubs in Washington, as well as The Hamlet in Delray Beach, Florida. A world-traveler, he visited all seven continents. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Maxine Platzer Lynn, children Elise, Amy, Michael, Stephen and Julie, seven grandchildren, his brother Dr. Merton Lynn of Cleveland and sister Esther Green of Boston; preceded in death by his brothers and sister Arvin, Faye, and Sol. Private services were held at Hillside Memorial Park on January 18th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Jewish Social Service Agency at 200 Wood Hill Road, Rockville, Maryland 20850 or www.jssa.org.
