Bernice Jordan Obituary

June 3, 1928 - December 28, 2019 An accomplished musician, Sr. Bernice expertly played the piano, organ and bells, as well as directed choirs. Born in Arizona, little Bernice moved to San Diego with her family in 1936 where she also attended Cathedral Girls' High School. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange in 1947 and after vows began full time teaching. Soon she led schools in the role of principal. Sr. Bernice received her BA in history and her MA in Education from the University of San Diego. She had a great devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, and this extended into her ministry in La Habra where she organized and oversaw the building of a mosaic of OL Guadalupe which became a shrine where children and adults alike visited. Sister Bernice's funeral will be on Tuesday, January 7 in the Motherhouse chapel at 480 S. Batavia Street, Orange. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. and the Mass of Christian burial begins at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Sr. Bernice may be sent to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange at 440 S. Batavia Street, Orange 92868.
