Brooks was my best friend at American University, and my roommate. He was intelligent, creative and spiritually engaged at a very young age. I always knew he would be successful no matter what he ended up doing. He was so special in so many ways. We fell out of touch after we went our separate ways in life. I never really accepted his passing after so many years. He will always be a constant presence in my so many memories from Washington, D.C. Jay Surgent
