Carl Ehrlich Obituary

Dr. Carl Frank Ehrlich Jr. passed away in Los Angeles, California on October 23, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Carl was born in St. Louis on October 24, 1940, to Carl Sr. and Cathryn Ehrlich. Carl studied at St. Louis University, University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine and did his residency at Washington University, where he later became a professor. He was a practicing Otolaryngologist – Head & Neck surgeon in St. Louis for decades, before moving to Los Angeles where he practiced in Whittier and worked as a physician reviewer for AIM Specialty Health. His proudest achievement was being a Commanding Officer in the US Army, treating the wounded from the Tet Offensive.
Carl had an exceptional wit, a gift for gab, great hair and loved golf, baseball, football, museums, books, musicals, movies and all things Hollywood. He dabbled in TV and was a member of the Screen Actors Guild. He can be seen as a priest in Mistresses, a gambling cowboy in Mad Men, a soccer grandpa in The Goldbergs and a principal in MTV's Awkward.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years, Janet, his six children, Erin & her partner Jed Spingarn, Carl III & his wife Kim, Scott, Robbie, Amy & her partner Ben Masbaum, Adam & his wife Katy, and treasured grandchildren - Jake, Alex, Violet, Addison and Lilah Rose.
Services will be held at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills (of course) on November 6 at 2:30pm. The live stream: LINK: streaming.forestlawn.com/119f540c

He was a beacon of light and a joy to be around. Met him when I started at (what was then called) AIM. He was always cheerful and such a positive presence to be around every day. He will be greatly missed.

We´re so deeply sorry to hear about Uncle Carl. He was truly one of a kind and one of the coolest uncles anyone could ask for, a wonderful doctor, and someone who always went above and beyond for his family. His kindness, humor, and generosity touched everyone around him - from his own kids to all of us cousins who felt lucky to be part of his extended family. He´ll be remembered with so much love and gratitude for all he gave and all the joy he brought into our lives.

Carl was amazing to work with. As his manager I could rely on him to out perform on anything I asked of him with a cheerful attitude. He was an excellent physician and proud father and grandfather. He spoke so lovingly of his wife and their life together. He shared stories about his time at WashU and St Louis and because of his influence, my son is attending school there. He had a gleam in his eye when he reminisced about his acting work and time on sets. Condolences to his family on their loss. I will greatly miss Carl´s charm and grace while always remembering his many accomplishments.

I will always remember the fun times Carl and I had at Sunset County Club. We also took many golf trips around the US and spent special times together. I haven’t seen Carl since he left St Louis and hope his time in California was special with his family. Condolences to his family and friends. Mark Erickson

Carl and l began school (kindergarten) together in 1945. We attended school at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in southwest St. Louis. ln 1948 (third grade), however, my parents moved to Webster Groves. Carl and l didn't reconnect until our freshman year at Bishop DuBourg High School (1954), where we had many classes together. Then, we again went our separate ways to college.

Without doubt, Carl was just an all-around good guy. He was smart, funny, likeable, enjoyed sports... good to be with. We didn't stay in touch over the years, but l'll remember him fondly. Rest in peace, Carl.

I worked for "Dr. E" for many years as his medical secretary and can honestly say he was the best boss I ever had. His wit and sense of humor were a bright spot every day I worked with him. He was kind, fair and generous to a fault and much loved by all who were in his orbit. I'll never forget his influence on my life. My sincere condolences to Janet and the family.
