I dated Charlie Butland in1953 while I was working at a refreshment stand at Salisbury Beach, Mass. We corresponded for a few months at the end of the summer when the beach closed down for the season. He told me that the song, "You Belong to Me" would be "our" song. Charlies gave me his ID bracelet that summer (something that was a popular thing to do in the fifties. I spoke with Charlie via phone a number of times In the nineties and bought his book. Rest in Peace, Charlie. I have only fond memories of you.

I met Charlie just a few years ago and enjoyed many fascinating conversations with him. His book "Charlie's Thoughts" was a real trip, telling stories of his lifelong brainstorms and hijinks. Charlie, the world will be a lesser place without you!

Charlie was an unforgettable character; charismatic and un-
afraid of taking risks in life, resulting in a very full life.
