Charles Daues Obituary

August 4, 1938 - April 18, 2023 Daues, Charles "Charlie" Oliver passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family to the arms of his Lord on Tuesday April 18, 2023. Born August 4,1938 in St. Louis, MO, Charles is preceded in death by parents Joseph and Eleanor, and sister Carol Madalon. He is survived by his brother, Joseph Daues, children Thomas and Stephan Daues, and Margaret Gooch, their spouses Mary Jane, Gretchen and Linnie, grandchildren Amaya and Matthew Gooch, Jason and Malia Daues, Olivia and Quentin Daues, their mother and grandmother Mary Ann (Tomber) Bell, step-children Frank and Debbie, and their mother Rita.
Charlie followed his passions, never rested to deepen his Christian faith, and sought enlightenment from any source without bias. A son of the prodigious St. Louis bricklayer, graduate of St Louis University and Thunderbird School of Global Management. Charlie forged his lifelong appreciation for creativity and culture during his service in the US Army. A natural and skilled salesman, aircraft industry posts in St. Louis, Phoenix and Los Angeles couldn't satisfy his entrepreneurial calling. He first struck out on his own to found with Mary Ann North Hollywood's Sweet Charlie's, a decade too early for the cookies and ice cream fads. Angels School Supply shortly followed, which found success and joy in meeting the needs of teachers and schools throughout southern California.
Charlie was always quick to quip and encourage all that crossed his path to do right by the world and unto others. No longer constrained to family, caretakers and grocery clerks, Charlie's gift of gab and wry humor is no doubt impressing heaven's trad jazz circuit and his favorite Catholic saints alike.
A Memorial Mass is scheduled for June 12, 10 am, with visitation at 9:30, at St. Cletus Catholic Church in St. Charles, Missouri and internment at Saint Peter and Paul Cemetery in St. Louis.
