Elliott, Charles
Charles Elliott, a retired electrical engineer who lived in Redondo Beach for 40 years, passed away on Nov. 15, 2005 in Fort Collins, Colorado, where he had lived since 1998. During the past two years he had been under care for dementia. Born in Brooklyn, New York on June 11, 1920, he was the son of Walker and Catherine Elliott. He was the beloved father of Charles Elliott Jr. of Whittier, California, a former featured columnist for the South Bay Daily Breeze. He is also survived by two daughters: Judith Lillian Jaffe of Wellington, Colorado; and Jean Kathy Beucler of Fort Collins, Colorado. Other survivors include his brother, John, of Millport New York, sister, Kathy, of Portland, Maine, and five grandchildren. No services are planned in Colorado. His beloved wife, Ruth Anna Elliott, died in 1979 and was interred at Green Hills Memorial Park, San Pedro, California. A memorial service and interment is scheduled at Green Hills at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. Elliott attended public schools and Hoffstra College in New York, and worked as an electrical engineer for Servomechanisms (later Teledyne Systems), an electronic feedback controls aerospace contractor that moved to El Segundo, CA in 1958. Elliott relocated his family from Levittown, New York to Redondo Beach, California that year. He was active for many years in South Bay Baptist Church in Torrance, California, serving at various times as superintendent of the Sunday School and chairman of the board of deacons there. He also volunteered for several years in Torrance schools. Retired for about 25 years, he continued to enjoy walking and running and participated annually in the Tom Sullivan 10K Marathon in Torrance, completing in his last race in 1997 at the age of 76. He also enthusiastically hiked, climbed mountains, camped and rock climbed with his children and grandchildren. Donations in lieu of flowers should be made to the Sierra Club or the Nature Conservancy.
