Charles Matheson Obituary

March 28, 1926 - April 20, 2015 Bart Matheson passed away on April 20 surrounded by loving family, where he peacefully drifted into Heaven in his sleep. After surviving a stroke two years ago, Bart had worked hard to gain back his strength with hopes of returning to the golf course one day. Due to complications from medication, he experienced a set-back that he did not recover from. Bart grew up in East Los Angeles and attended Montebello High School and Fullerton JC where he ran hurdles on the track team and was always surrounded by his lifelong buddies Bert Levine and Bob Albert. Best friends since childhood that lasted through their entire lifetimes. They could always be found at Newport Beach and Huntington Beach doing handstands on the sand and enjoying life wherever they went. Bart served in the Navy in WWII as a crewman on ships in Japan. He was a highly respected businessman with Ross Swiss Dairies where he was General Manager of operations and his employees admired him with deep appreciation of his fair disposition. If Bart gave you his word, that's all you needed. To know Bart was to love him, his friendly personality, his handsome looks, his kind and unwavering support to anyone who needed him. The world has lost a true gentleman. Surviving him is the love of his life and devoted wife of 68 years, Kate Matheson, and his children Malcolm and Suzanne, sister-in-law Mary Matheson, and only grandson Josh Trifunovic. Their heartbreak is as large as his absence. Heaven gained another angel. We love you, Dad, more than words can say. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the San Clemente Municipal Golf Course 150 E. Avenida Magdalena, San Clemente, CA 92672 or KeepMemoryAlive.org for Alzheimer's research and cures.

As a child I always looked forward to seeing Bart at family gatherings. He was always well groomed and a classy dresser. I was certain that he was a movie star. He just had to be! As I grew older I recognized his genuine kindness towards everyone. He served as a great example for us all, and of course he will be deeply missed. I offer my sincere condolences to family and friends.
