Christopher Byk Obituary

BYK, Christopher Horan Oct. 26, 1959 - Dec. 25, 2007 Chris Byk was born in Los Angeles in 1959. Living in Brentwood for most of his life, Chris started off at St. Mathews School in the Pacific Palisades, later attending Pali High School and completed his BA at USC. He began a real estate development business that has left us with several masterpieces. Chris used his artistic talents both to create sculptures and structures in and around Los Angeles. In 1994, Chris was instrumental in the development of the Oxnard Factory Outlet Mall, the most successful of its kind in the history of the "Outlet Mall" when it opened. During the 1980's, Chris participated in the creation of several notable nightclubs including Asylum in Beverly Hills and BC in Hollywood. Chris' talents expanded far beyond the realm of the real estate development. Chris built custom bicycles, restored vintage trucks, constructed his dream avocado ranch in Santa Paula and won awards for his artwork that will last for decades to come. Chris Byk died at this home in Brentwood on Christmas Day 2007. He leaves behind two children, Griffin Byk and Miranda Byk; father, Jon Byk; brothers, Timothy and Jeremy Byk; and wife, Lisa Pemberton. Services will be at St. Albans Church at 11 a.m. today, January 5, 2008 at 580 Hilgard in Westwood.

Chris,
I still think of you often my friend. We had such great adventures in NYC during KUA vacations!! What an explorer you were, always running off to the next thing and thankfully letting me tag along. Miss you Brother.

Hey dad, I hope there's some way that you could read this where ever you are. But I really miss you. I miss talking to you about history and asking how to say things in Spanish. I always think of random questions, thinking I can call you, but you're not here any more. I love you so much dad and I really miss you. I hope you are with Honey up in heaven having fun. I'm glad that you are not in any pain any more and you're at peace. I really love you dad and I wish you were here. I really, really do...

chada, i still can't believe you are gone. I can't drive down your street, and I just look at my cell phone when it rings thinking "Chris Byk" will show up. But it doesn't, we went to the Natural History Museum with Uncle Truck yesterday, and talked about you all day. Mo went back to school today after being so sick with the flu, and Griffin went back to work and made some nice tips. I miss you so much and still cannot believe that you left us. I hope you are finally resting in a state of calm, you'd hate it but you deserve it . I miss you so much

Chris - Tim and I miss you so much! We remember how much fun we had in Cozumel, when you found out the spanish word for midget was "enano" and we took Griffin scuba diving for the first time. You're a great father, brother, and brother-in-law, also a future uncle! I hope you and Hilary are having fun in heaven, building fabulous homes and gardens!

To the entire Byk family please accept my sincere condolences. Chris was smart, funny, endearing, and seemingly unstoppable. I will remember the trip we all took to San Francisco, that he taught me about cooking, and maybe most for the times he brought Griffin to our home just to hang out..
