Christopher Hopkins Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chris Hopkins - beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Chris passed away peacefully on April 17, 2024, at the age of 86.

A man of remarkable integrity and soft strength, Chris had a gift for brightening every room with his humour, quick wit, and warmth. His infectious laughter and genuine kindness endeared him to all who knew him.

Chris is survived by his wife Marian; children Shannon, Ken (Tara), Russell (Wanda) and Debora ( Bob); grandchildren Graham, Chris, Kevin, Sophie, Sam, Theresa, Carren, Vianna, Sage, Senna and Sara; and great-grandchildren, Connor, Quinn and Tegan.

Chris spent his early years in Victoria, where he graduated from Oak Bay High and later received a Masters in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University. Chris had a 38-year career with BC Hydro, where he made lasting contributions to the communities he served. In retirement, his leadership and service to others and his community continued through roles with the Delta Community Living Society, Probus, and the Delta Photo Club.

Chris loved to sing and, when accompanied by his son Ken, could fill a room with beautiful music and genuine joy. As an avid fisherman, he spent countless hours on the water in constant pursuit of calm seas and very large salmon. Chris shared his boundless love of fishing and lessons learned with his sons and as Tom Mack - the writer behind the popular fishing column in the Richmond Review. Chris also had a passion for golf and photography and spent many hours capturing the pure beauty of travel, nature, family and the odd power pole, of course.

Above all, Chris was a devoted husband who adored and honoured his wife, Marian, always putting her needs first. They travelled the world together and relished in time spent surrounded by their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Though he may be gone, his spirit of kindness, passion and dedication to his family will forever live in our hearts. Thanks, Dad, for the music and beautiful memories and thanks for doing it Your Way.

A Celebration of Life for Chris will be held at the Red Barn at Southlands Grange Centre in Tsawwassen from 2pm to 4pm on June 15, 2024.

I have so many fond memories of Chris singing with my mom, Lynn Wagner, up in Port Hardy, BC, with the Susquehanna Singers (sp?). That was way back in the very early 70s! He did indeed have a lovely, lovely voice. And a laugh that filled any room. I'm grateful that he remained a good friend to my father, Dick Wagner, until the end. Sympathies and condolences to Marion, Shannon, Ken, Russel, and Deb and families as well.

Have known Chris since 1969 when we worked together in Port Hardy. An ardent fisherman, an enthusiastic singer and a long time all around good friend. We will miss him at our monthly "parliament" sessions where we discussed and solved the worlds problems.

Chris shared many of his wonderful photos with me, and was always a kind and thoughtful gentleman. We shared memories of a wonderful childhood and school day memories from Victoria ....I will miss him.

I learned something today, I suspect we never knew about each other, we were both born in Victoria. I remember he always had the staff at Richmond in giggles and laughter! RIP! Bruce Main
