Daniel Weber Obituary
Weber, Daniel A. Mr. Weber was born in New Jersey, August 19, 1910. Mr. Weber graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1934 and practiced in New York City until 1942. After a four year stint in the U.S. Army, he was admitted to the State Bar of California. He practiced in the Beverly Hills-West Los Angeles area, principally in the field of general civil litigation, until his retirement in 1985. He was a partner in three law firms during different stages of his career: Fendler, Weber and Lerner; Weber, Schwartz and Alschuler; and Mitchell, Silbergerg and Knupp. Following his retirement from the latter firm he moved to North San Diego County (Leisure Village Ocean Hills). He thereafter served regularly as an arbitrator; and for a few years as judge pro tem of the Superior Court, San Diego County (North County Branch). He was honored as ``Judge Pro Tem of the Year" in 1989. He was a past president of the Beverly Hills Bar Association; and was formerly a member of The Board of trustees of the Los Angeles County Bar Association; The Executive Committee of the State Bar Conference of Delegates; The American Bar Association House of Delegates; and other law associates. Mr. Weber was co-counsel for the plaintiffs in the class actions brought some years ago by the so-called ``Hollywood studio musicians" led by Cecil F. Read, who ``rebelled" against James C. Petrillo, then head of the American Federation of Musicians. The actions, which ended up in the U.S. Supreme Court, culminated in a successful attack upon the Music Performance Trust Fund, after a lengthy trial before judge Clarence Kincaid. As a consequence of the outcome of the litigation, certain collective bargaining practices involving recording and motion picture studio musicians were materially changed. He was also co-counsel for the plaintiffs in several plagiarism cases that established the law of California in the field. He was a member of Temple Emanuel, Beverly Hills. He is survived by his wife, Doris; a son, David E. Weber, Ph.D., of Wilmington, North Carolina; and a sister, Esther Ginsburg (Harold), a resident of New Jersey, and his brothers-in-law Joseph B., Kenneth I., and Dondald B. (Marion) Marts.
