David Karney Obituary

Karney, David V. On Nov. 20, 2005, in Los Angeles, after a long, courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1925, graduated from American University of Beirut in 1946, earned an M.B.A. from Boston University in 1948. Veteran of the 1948 Israeli War of Independence. A gentle and loving man, a beloved husband and extraordinary father and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him. His fifty-year career in industrial real estate development in Southern California earned him the respect and admiration of many in our community. A former board member of Boston University, the Jewish Community Federation of Los Angeles, and Tel Aviv and Technion Universities. A generous philanthropist and active supporter of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Los Angeles Music Center, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, City of Hope, Tel Hashomer Hospital, Tel Aviv University, Technion Institute, Tel-Aviv Foundation, and Wilshire Boulevard Temple. Survived by his loving family: his wife Irene; his daughters Aliza (Marc) Guren and Susanna (Michael) Flaster; his sister Rina (Haim) Gueron of Tel Aviv; his brother Amiram (Perla) Karney; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Marian (Dick) May, Bud (Jackie) Cohn; his stepdaughters Susan Lieberman, Lori Lieberman (Joe Cali), and Kim (Michael) McCarty; his grandchildren Adam and Julia Guren, and Matthew and Andrea Valji; and his step-grandchildren Emily, Daniel and William Scott, and Clancy and Chas McCarty. Services to be held Wednesday, Nov. 23 at noon at Hillside Memorial Park, 6001 Centinela Ave.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Institute for Multiple Myeloma and Bone Cancer Research, 9201 Sunset Blvd., Ste. 300, W. Hollywood, CA 90069.
