Don Flora Obituary

August 23, 1934 - November 1, 2015 Don Robert Flora, age 81, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2015 in Laguna Beach California. He was born August 23, 1934 in Los Angeles to Hazel Wiseman and Floyd Flora. He is survived by his wife Betty, and children Kelsey Lorene, and Don Robert Jr., and Jenelle Cox, (Mark), Jeffrey (Kathryn), Scott (Paige), and Mont (Robyn). He has 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Alice Kinney, and his brother Ralph. He is preceded by his brother Harold and his first wife, Dee Ann Cardwell Rowe. Don loved his family and showed it by being an excellent provider and patriarch, while teaching a great love of work and play. Don enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting, deep sea fishing and dirt bike riding. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army in Germany. He traveled with his family extensively, teaching them to appreciate the world and love this country. Don worked for 55 years in the heating and air conditioning industry, owning his own company for 25 years. He employed hundreds of people and enjoyed helping others by giving them opportunities to improve. He was tenacious in business and sought excellence in himself and all those around him. Don was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities including Scoutmaster, early-morning seminary teacher, youth leader, and church administrator. His absence will be felt by many. His influence will go on forever. We look forward to that bright reunion. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 13, 2015 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 22851 Aliso Creek Road, Aliso Viejo, CA at 10:00 am, with viewing from 9:15 to 9:45. Don was one of the most influential people that I have ever met. I am who I am because of him. I loved listening to his advise. He had a way with words. Somehow everything that he said made so much sense. I enjoyed going downstairs to his office to go over jobs because I would always learn something new and I would leave with a smile on my face. I feel truly blessed to have met a person like him. People like him make this world a lot better. Thank you Don. Thank you for everything you did for me and for others around you.

As a child my Uncle Donny was larger than life. One of my fondest memories was of him swinging me over his shoulder and then hanging me by my ankles over the pool, me squealing in delight! In adulthood I still remember him as larger than life, just in a different way. He didn't converse much, but when he spoke it was worth listening too. He will truly be missed. God Bless.

Don was a mentor and a tremendous father figure to a VERY young and naive kid with a young family. he had the ability to be tough and loyal at the same time. I am a better person and a better businessman because of him. He was a man of few words but conveyed everything he needed to with a look. If you want to know what a great teacher and businessman he was just look at his successful tree of business, whose branches are full of individuals he taught and mentored.

Here is to a life well lived. Here is to Don Flora. Cheers.
