Donald Dischner Obituary

Donald Alan Dischner
Donald Alan Dischner passed away June 20, 2012 in Laguna Hills, CA following complications from a heart attack. While Don is at peace with the Lord, his organs have given the gift of life to others. He is survived by his beloved wife Linda and daughter Carrie and brothers Bob, Jake and Ken and cousins, nephews and nieces.
One of five boys, he was born on November 19, 1956 in Orange, CA to Robert and Hilda Dischner (both deceased). A lifelong resident of Orange County, Don was a graduate of Santa Ana High and Santa Ana College. After working at Disneyland, he had a successful career in advertising for the Orange County Register and the last 20 years at the Los Angeles Times.
Don loved his family, was a proud father, took pride in his profession and was a loyal friend to many. He was an avid sports fan, suffered with the Chicago Cubs, loved movies, savored In n' Out burgers, saw The Who countless times and sadly died before he got old. His family and friends will forever hold dear the memory of his love, sense of humor, and boundless enthusiasm.
Viewing and Memorial Service will be held at Friends Church Chapel, 5211 Lakeview Ave, Yorba Linda, CA
Viewing: Saturday afternoon, June 23, 2012 from 2 PM to 5 PM

Just found out the sad news of Don's passing and quickly thought back to the many softball games at the OC Register and the infectious grin that always creased Don's face. You never had a bad day when Don was around and the world is a sadder place without him. My condolences go out to his family.

I am writing this as I reminisce about all the fun times we had shared on the Metro Link. Every day I looked forward to seeing Mr. Dish and his jolly smile. When I had a bad day at work, I could always count on Don to Cheer me up with this his witty comments, funny jokes, and of course the card games. We could always count on Don to bring the deck of cards!

He was Majestic and I feel very honored to have known him for the 3-4 years I took the train with him. There was one time we were playing a game on a friend's I-phone and Don wanted to beat my score so bad he stood in the aisle while the train was going and he did this shuffle in the aisle that made us laugh so hard we teared up (He still lost). There are so many great memories that I will forever cherish. He will not be forgotten as he will always have a special place in my heart along with many others.

Carrie, your Dad loved you so much. He told us many stories on the train. When I got him the Pink Concert tickets, he was so excited to be the "Cool" Dad to take you and your friends. You are so blessed to have such an awesome Dad. He was always so proud of you.

I have noticed since Don's Death, of how many different people Don touch in so many different places and in so many different ways. I do not think I will ever get over him being out of my life as I found in so many others feeling the same way as I do. He was more then the best brother that could be.

I'm writing this, sitting across from an empty seat where you should be. Between, an empty table where there should be a card game. Hearing only the sounds of the train, waiting for you to chime in with some useless trivia, a theme song, or a laugh. The ride home has never felt so long.

I knew you for a brief time, only a couple years. But I wouldn't pass up knowing you at all, even if it meant being saved from the sadness I feel now to have lost you.

Everyday I looked forward to the train ride home and a card game to wipe the stress of my work day away. You always made me laugh. While my boyfriend was away with the military, you were as supportive to me as a father. You were always there to listen when I needed to vent or to distract me when I needed to laugh. I could listen to you talk for ever, you always had a story to tell. Who is going to share my desserts with me now? I'm gonna get chubby now and it's your fault.

You will be greatly, greatly missed, Don the Dish.

Prayers and love to your family.

I think today it finally hit me... No more of that witty "I know something you don't know" grin, and no more silly birthday songs in my voicemail, I will save the last one forever. I'm so glad I got to have you in my life

I remember Don from the OC Register, years ago, he left years prior to my leaving, but what I remember of Don, a very jovial and old school newspaper advertising professional, who I am sure will be missed by his family and friends. My prayers and thoughts are with his family now. Time to rest in peace Don.

Don was a major influence on me and all my friends who played on any of the numerous teams he coached over the years - Football, Baseball. A great coach and friend. A huge influence on my music knowledge and expeiences. I am grateful to have been enriched and deeply influenced. Don's flame will burn forever in my memory. I can still hear him laughing and see the Cheshire cat grin across his face.

Dish, I will always have great memories of the things we did and experiences we shared. Working (sometimes) at D-Land, playing sports and cards and going to games and Vegas. It is obvious how many lives you touched and the impact you made. Gone from this world, but you won't be forgotten. Rest in peace my friend.

Don (Dish) you will be missed by many. Can't thank you enough for the many sacrifices you made during our years with Disney sports. One of the best football minds on the sweeper side. Never forget you robbing me of a homer in the summer softball playoffs. You never looked pretty, but always and I mean always got the job done. May God bless you and your loved ones.

Dish was one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE people to work with at Disneyland. He made the difficult and boring job of cleaning up after people fun and entertaining. He always had some jewel of knowledge to pass on or something really interesting to talk about that made those long hours fly by. Good bye, friend!

A truly great person and a friend for 40+ years. I had not seen Donald for a few years but I always knew when we would next meet it would be like we saw each other yesterday and the banter would continue where we left off. A great smile and laugh were his trademarks. The Cubs are a shoe-in for the pennant with Donald looking down on them now.

Dish, you will be greatly missed. I will forever cherish my memories with you at Disneyland and Peralta. You were a dear friend during the good and hard times. You will always hold a special place in my heart. You quote John Lennon on your Facebook site, "Life is something that passes you by while your busy making other plans." Thank you for reminding me to cherish each day. God Bless.

We lost an incredible person... I only knew Don for 4 years but in that time we would speak once to twice a week and our banter back and forth was so memorable and Don and I became good friends. Its been a tough week knowing he's not with us anymore but I cherish the time I knew him all the way here in New Jersey. Don love sports like me and because of that we had an immediate bond. Yes we did share a client together but our relationship was way more than that.I learned this week how many people he touched and I was not surprised. Don I love you, I know that you know that, I wish I could be there this weekend but believe me, you will consume my mind and I will never forget you and our special bond. Rest in peace my friend... I will see you on the other side.
