DORIS Kirschner Obituary

April 19, 1923 - January 30, 2018 Born to Max and Florence Lewis in Camden, NJ. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 72 years, Bernard, in 2015. During WW ll, Doris worked in support of the war effort while Bernard served overseas in the army. Upon his discharge they moved to Los Angeles with their baby daughter, where their son was soon born. Shortly after, Doris earned her real estate brokerage license, joining Bernard in the business, following which the two worked together for 37 years as proprietors of "Doris Lewis Antiques" on Wilshire Blvd. in West Los Angeles. In 1970 they moved to Malibu where they enjoyed a wonderful lifestyle, playing tennis and entertaining, traveling the world in search of antiques and taking bicycle tours. The cornerstone of their life together was their love for each other and their family. For several years Doris was the "Welcome Wagon" hostess in Malibu, worked at the City Hall and was a docent at the Adamson House in Malibu. Doris was a voracious reader and avid bridge player. Upon moving to Palm Springs three years ago she and her son, Jay, had the joy of partnering with each other for weekly bridge. Doris is survived by her brother, Edward Lewis, of Los Angeles, her daughter, Janis (Michael) Crawford of Tiburon, CA, son, Jay (Judith) Kirschner of Palm Springs and grandchildren Chelsea (Kurt Risic) Crawford, Dinah (Joseph) Houghtaling, Stuart (Rachel) Crawford, Crystal Kirschner and six great-grandchildren. Interment will be at Bernard's side at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her memory may be honored with a donation to the charity of your choice.
