Doris Olliff Obituary

OLLIFF, Doris Irene (Atchley) Born January 27, 1921 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Passed away July 15, 2006 in Woodland Hills, California. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on July 21 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Northridge. Doris, the third of eight children born to J.C. and Amelie Atchley, began work as a secretary at age 16 to assist her parents. She was highly regarded during her ten-year career. She married JD Olliff on February 14, 1946 in New Orleans and on their honeymoon the couple traveled to their new home in Southern California. Upon the birth of the first of her seven children in 1947, she left her career for her chosen vocation as a mother. She moved with her husband and family to Van Nuys in 1950 and took her growing family to Northridge in 1962. Doris was a loving wife and mother, always there to do what she saw as her duty, and always doing it with tenderness. She often did it with humor, and sometimes she had to do it with tolerance, but she knew her business and enjoyed doing it. Her marriage of sixty years reflects the constancy that we remember in Doris Olliff. Her welcoming and lasting relationships with her sons-in-law and daughters-in-law were remarkable. Doris is survived by her husband JD; her sisters Beanie Adolph and Marilyn Jackson and her brother Jack Atchley; her children Jeff (Lori), Rex (Frances), Randy (Robyne), Terry (Diane), Kevin (Elizabeth), Priscilla Harding (Perry), and Cindy Wagner (Randy); twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her stability, her love, and her enduring qualities of patience and care made her a friend -- or sister or mother-in-law or mother or wife or grandmother -- for life. We will carry her in our hearts for she has touched our souls with love.

My sisters found this precious Valentine in Mom's stuff:

For Daddy

On Valentine's Day (cute hobby horse)

Daddy,

You're so very dear

And you're such good fun, too,

Bet everyone would like to have

A Daddy just like you!

[signed] "Priscilla Anne

(or Jeffrey)"

Jeffrey would be born 7 months later, Priscilla 5 boys later.
