A true loss for psychology and his family and friends. Both Ed Alf and Merle Turner served on my Master's thesis committee at SDSU. It doesn't get better than that. They are and will be remembered for their humanity and wisdom.

Ed Alf and I were hired the same year, 1963, along with three others, at San Diego State. Both of us retired earlier than required in order to be with our talented wives. Ed and Martha were good friends and true professionals. He will be missed by all who knew him in the Department of Psychology at SDSU.

As a shy young American Indian faculty member at SDSU decades ago I was delighted to learn that Ed Alf was also of American Indian descent. He helped me with statistical and research issues. He was part of my ongoing tennis doubles group for a decade. I have thought of him often over the decades since I left SDSU. I shall miss him.

Eddie was all people say. A gentle genius. His wife Martha is a wonderful artist. I'm sorry for your loss, Martha.

Eddie was one of the sweetest men I ever knew, intellectually brilliant, but also gentle, modest, and so very kind. Everyone who knew him at the Venice, California community center that is the Novel Cafe, will miss his sweet and good-humored presence sorely. He never complained, and I am so grieved by his loss.

My husband Merle Turner (1917-2005) loved and admired Eddy Alf. I remember with great pleasure Ed's stories of the church of which he was the faithful pastor. One of the good people of the world.

So sorry for your loss. If his parents names were Hazel and Del, they were friends of my parents, also from Kent. I have memories of my mother talking about them.
