MULDOON , Edward M.
Orange County Business Leader and Philanthropist Dies Edward M. Muldoon March 2, 1925 - March 23, 2007 Edward Muldoon died peacefully following a long illness. Ed was born in Youngstown, Ohio, where he spent his very early life before moving to Cleveland, Ohio.
Prior to graduating Cathedral Latin School in 1943, Ed enlisted as a U.S. Naval Air Cadet. He enrolled in John Carroll University, University Heights, Ohio and was then put into active service in the United States Navy V12 program at JCU. Ed was commissioned as an Ensign upon graduation from the Midshipman's School, Columbia University and was immediately assigned to the Western Pacific Theater where he served until August, 1945.
Following his honorable discharge from the USN, Ed returned to JCU, completing his undergraduate work in June, 1948 with a Bachelor of Science Degree with majors in Mathematics and Physics. After graduation, Ed worked in industrial sales which eventually led to work in industrial manufacturing.
The Korean conflict necessitated Ed's return to the USN. He attained the rank of Lieutenant while serving 18 months as Gunnery Officer of a destroyer. Ed was awarded eight service medals including three battle stars for his service in World War II and the Korean conflict.
Ed began his manufacturing career in 1955 by founding ETC, Inc. in Cleveland. After selling his interest in ETC, Ed moved to Southern California where he extended his career in manufacturing until his very recent retirement as Chairman and CEO of Bivar, Inc., Irvine, CA.
Ed's efforts and success in electronics manufacturing allowed him to support the institutions dear to him, his alma mater John Carroll University and Mission Hospital, Mission Viejo, CA. Ed funded key scholarships and capital campaigns at JCU, including the Edward M. Muldoon Center for Entrepreneurship. The university awarded Ed an Honorary Doctorate in appreciation for his many contributions. Ed was a principal donor of Mission Hospital. The Muldoon Cardiac Center was named in honor of Ed and his wife Ann. Ed served as a member of the Mission Hospital Board of Trustees and Foundation Board of Directors.
Additional activities and recognition include Chairman of the Board, Electronic Association of California; Member, Board of Governors, Electronic Industries Association; President of Coto de Caza/Trabuco Canyon CA Rotary Club; Rotary International Foundation Diamond Circle Award.
In addition to his wife Ann, Ed is survived by his children from a previous marriage, Edward M. Muldoon, Kevin F. Muldoon, Constance M. Muldoon and Mary M. Ryan; and his grandchildren Kevin M. Muldoon, Timothy J. Ryan, Madeline G. Muldoon and Sam H. Muldoon.
