Eleanor Richman-Adams Obituary

Richman-Adams, Eleanor
Vice President for Worldwide Programming of Buena Vista Home Entertainment (The Disney Company) died July 5, 2002, of complications related to breast cancer. She was 54 years old. At Disney since 1988, Ms. Richman created and produced numerous videos for adults and children, including the "Sing Along" line, Jim Henson and Disney Theme Park videos, and videos such as "Brave Little Toaster." Earlier in her career, she was Manager of Daytime Programming for NBC-TV in New York and Los Angeles. As Director of Development for Lorrimar in Los Angeles, she began to focus on children's programming. Ms. Richman devoted her career to producing high quality programming for children. She believed in asking children what they wanted to see and hear. Before her television career, Ms. Richman was a publishing executive at Arbor House Publishing, E.P. Dutton, Farrar Strauss and Giroux, and other publishing firms. As a freelance journalist, she published articles in the LA Times, Harper's Magazine, New York Daily News, and other magazines and newspapers. She also taught literature and journalism at Pace University and Fordham University. Ms. Richman waged a decade-long struggle against breast cancer. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her bravery, generosity, and never flagging sense of humor will be sorely missed by her family, her many personal friends and colleagues in the entertainment industry. With her final generous act, two people will receive the gift of sight by the donation of their corneas to the Doheny Eye and Tissue Bank. She is survived by her husband Steven Adams; her daughter Natasha Emmy Adams, and her aunt Miriam Sutter. The memorial service will be held 5 PM, Monday, July 8, 2002 at the Sportsman's Lodge, 12833 Ventura Blvd., Studio City (Ventura and Coldwater Canyon). In lieu of flowers, please send donation to the Natasha Emmy Adams Education Fund, c/o Linda Remy, Box 5402, Mill Valley, CA 94942.
