Ethel Longenecker Obituary

Longenecker, Ethel
Ethel Longenecker, 83, died at home in Whittier on March 24, surrounded by family. Born in 1920 in San Francisco, she lived in Los Angeles County from 1927 until her death. She graduated summa cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa from UCLA in 1941 and earned her Masters degree in Social Work from USC in 1966. From 1960 to 1976, she worked in family and children's services for the L.A. County Department of Social Services; from 1976 to 1980, she was Assistant Director of the American Youth Foundation. Ethel is survived by Scott, her husband of 61 years, by her daughters, Marlene Longenecker and Margaret Gillroy, and by three grandchildren: Scott, Robert, and Jennifer Gillroy. A private graveside service will be held at Rose Hills Memorial Park on April 8, followed by visiting hours and a reception from 4:30 -6:30 at the Radisson Hotel at 7320 Greenleaf Street in Whittier. Memorial donations may be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind, P.O. 3950, San Rafael, CA 94915.
