Lavey, Evelyn
Evelyn Lavey was born in Duluth, MN on April 30, 1914. She moved to Los Angeles in the 1950's with her closest friend Helen Mayer. Evelyn retired as a manager of the Colwell Company, a real estate mortgage firm. She is survived by her sisters Agnes Callahan of Stratford, CT, Margaret Younk of St. Anthony, MN, and her brothers Leo Lavey of St. Petersburg, FL and Ozzie Lavey of Roseville, MN. She was predeceased by her sister Myrtle Schilling, her brothers Patrick and Alfred Lavey and her best friend Helen Mayer. Evelyn lived a rich and interesting life traveling the world with her friends. She loved life and was generous in her support of many charities. She was a member of St. Brendan's Parish, the Aves, the Auxiliary for the Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women, and volunteered at Good Samaritan Hospital's Cancer Center. Evelyn died at Kingsley Manor on November 4, after a courageous battle with cancer. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Brendan's Church at 10 a.m., Monday, November 11, followed by interment at Holy Cross Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations should be sent to Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women, 267 N. Belmont Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90026. Callanan Mortuary 323/462-2266.
