Flora May Lambert

Flora May Lambert, age 89 passed away October 16, 2015 at home with her family by her side. She was born May 22, 1926 in Butte, Montana and was the eldest daughter of the four beautiful children blessed to Harold and Elsie Stevens. Flora came to California in 1936 where she attended Pasadena schools. As a high school student, she became active in the USO and the Pasadena YWCA. Skiing and gymnastics were her favorite sports along with the reading of history, the belief in preserving America true to its original design and the obsession to become a master typist. Her many talents and interests put her life into action as she participated and hosted the first YWCA "Worldwide Self Help Fund", benefiting justice, peace and freedom of women throughout the world. The love of skiing found her on many joint ski trips with the Pasadena YMCA, where she met her husband, Jack Lambert, a local custom furniture artisan. They were married August 19, 1950 and settled in Glendale in 1958. Flora worked for several years as an Accountant for The Phone Company in downtown Los Angeles while Jack continued with his furniture design and showroom in Pasadena. Flora convinced Jack to pursue his true gift, which she believed was his ability to educate. This became a 38 year career serving as both educator and counselor at Crescenta Valley High School. Jack and Flora dedicated 30 years of their life together, to the support of local, state and federal political campaigns within the Republican Party. Managing polls, precincts while promoting candidates and the shared belief of their ideals. They were members of United Republicans of California as well as Flora's weekly involvement with the Glendale Chapter of The Republican Women's Workshop and the Republican Presidential Task Force. In addition, Flora and Jack donated fifteen years to the Glendale Area March of Dimes for the benefit of handicapped children and enjoyed their membership with the Glendale Symphony Orchestra. This would also include Flora's involvement with the Women's Committee of the Glendale Symphony. The Lambert's decided life needed to be simplified, gone were the days of potlucks, Ambrosia and Seven Up Salad. It was time for a new adventure. They decided upon a move to Port Townsend, Washington. There, they built a home and enjoyed a ten year adventure until Jack's passing in 2002. Flora missed her home and returned to Glendale in 2002, to live with her daughter Jan and her family. She engaged with old friends to join the Patron's Club of Glendale College, Republican Women's Workshop and Questers of California with her sister Betty Praigg. She enjoyed family life at home, addicted to FOX News and the coming 2016 Presidential Election, books about the forefathers of our country, Classic American writers, the love of Cornwall, England, hot coffee by day and her glass of Merlot by night. She was happy to live her final days in her beloved Glendale, enjoying home life with her granddaughter, Lily and her dogs Pete and Ruby. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Jack Lambert, three siblings: Gordon Stevens, Betty Praigg and James Stevens. She leaves behind her loving children Jan (Kurt) Polchow and granddaughter, Lily Polchow of Glendale and John Lambert (Art) of Palm Desert. Niece and Nephew: Mark Praigg of Houston, Texas and Jody Harper of Lake Oswego, Oregon. Her memory will be one of a person that was always happy to see you, was a great room at any party and the last one to go to bed after the party. She lived without boundaries of age and with a great appreciation for life. A Memorial Mass is scheduled November 13, 2015, 11:00 am at St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church, La Canada, Ca. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or USC Norris/ Lung Cancer Research Team. Arrangements were provided by Cabot & Sons, Pasadena, Ca and St. Bede Parish.
