I respected Frank Demond as a unique and talented individual who rejected conformity to follow an inner compulsion despite its unconventional nature. I was a student at Los Angeles High School when I first heard Frank, then a banjoist, with a student Dixieland jazz group at an assembly. That was probably the inception of my eventual obsession with traditional jazz and ragtime. I took piano lessons and, after graduation from college and military service, spent some years as a semi-professional musician. Thanks, Frank!

Thanks Frank for the many years of joy & entertainment! I met you when I was 4 years old and you played with my Uncle Richard Calhoun in a banjo band called Billy and his Bachelors which was based in Los Angeles from 1962 - 1971. The last time I saw you perform was around 2008 at the Irvine Barclay with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. You will never be forgotten! Toi Toi Toi ! .
