Gail Kirwan Obituary

KIRWAN, Gail Born July 18, 1942, a wonderful wife, proud and loving mother and active community supporter passed away on Monday, February 18, 2008. Gail suffered heroically with cancer for twelve years, fighting it gracefully all the way. She died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Gail was born in Meriden, Connecticut to Mary and Rocco Logozzo. She graduated from Central Connecticut State University and began her teaching career in Middletown, CT. She moved to New York City in 1966 and taught French at The Greenvale School in Eastchester, New York. Gail met Roger in 1969 and they married in 1971. In 1973 they moved to Newport Beach where Nicole was soon born. Two years later Gail first visited Hoag Hospital where son, Sean, was born. As time passed and her children grew, Gail joined the support group for the Orange County Philharmonic Society, then the Performing Arts Center's Angels of the Arts. Eventually she was asked to serve on the Board of Opera Pacific and then the Hoag Hospital Foundation Board of Directors (her true passion). She was also a long time, devoted parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. A beautiful, sophisticated and elegant lady, Gail is survived by her loving husband Roger, daughter Nicole, son Sean, his fiance Virginia Ngo, and her mother Mary, sisters Marlene Cann, Susan Schmid and brother David Logozzo, all of Boston, Massachusetts. Visitation hours at Pacific View Mortuary will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday with a Rosary at 6 p.m. A Requiem Mass celebrating Gail's life will be held at 12 noon on Saturday the 24th at Our Lady Queen of Angels in Newport Beach. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in Gail's name can be made to Boys Hope/Girls Hope at their office at 12912 Brookhurst St., Suite 400A, Garden Grove, California 92840.

My parents moved our family to Eastchester in June 1967. My younger brother started second grade that September, and I was in fifth grade. Mrs. Kirwan (then Ms. Logozzo) was my homeroom teacher. The first day of school we were late - mom took us to be sure we got there safely - and the cafeteria had already taken lunch orders or maybe I forgot lunch money. She was very kind and paid for me. The next day mom sent me to school with some money, and she said it's OK. It was a new school, and I think she sensed that. She was very kind and made that day less frightening for a nine-year-old in a new school.

Dear Roger, Nicole and Sean,

Danny and I are remembering you in our hearts and prayers at this sad time in your lives. The girls and I recall our first trip to California when Gail gave us a memorable tour of Newport Beach. Clare and Pat told us how much Gail will be missed by Californians. I trust they will be there for you always. Please express our condolences to Gail's mother and family.

Love,
Margie
