George Acker Obituary

Acker, George Mark
Passed away peacefully on February 28, 2002 in Santa Monica, California due to complications of dementia. George was born on March 31, 1912 in a small farming community of Milledgeville, Illinois. There he grew up with his one brother and five sisters. After serving as a lieutenant in World War II, George moved to California in 1947 where he went looking for his fortune. He found it when he married Nadine Phillips on December 21, 1951. George was a pioneer in the Cable Television Industry. He co-owned Cable systems and supplied equipment needed to build new systems. He was CEO and owner of Cable TV Supply Company. George loved life. He traveled extensively all over the world. Even after he retired at the age of 77, he was constantly on the go. George was always planning a trip somewhere. He was a wonderful friend, father and devoted husband. George is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nadine; sons Paul, Robert and John Acker; daughters Mary Acker and Karen Acker Husman and ten grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9th, at 1 p.m. at Bel Air Presbyterian Church, 16221 Mulholland Drive, Los Angeles. Donations may be made in George's memory to ARC's (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists), 1801 Avenue of The Stars, #708, Los Angeles, CA 90067 or LARC (Los Angeles Retarded Citizens Foundation), 29890 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus, CA 91350.
