WERTH , George Peter
Age 88, died peacefully in the loving care of his daughter and hospice at his home in Fair Oaks, CA on May 7, 2007. George was raised in Milwaukee, Wis. Graduated from Milwaukee State Teachers College. George married his college sweetheart Charlotte Murphy after college, and served in the armed forces in WWII in the Military Bands/Entertainment Division. George was an established trumpet player who relocated in the Los Angeles area in 1948. He spent over 50 years playing trumpet in the Hollywood area during its hey day. He was affiliated with all the major studios, composers such as David Rose, Nelson Riddle and Henry Mancini. George's career included playing thousands of movie soundtracks made by Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, and MGM to name a few. He is probably best known for his work with David Rose when he played the muted trumpet solo on the song, "The Stripper", which was featured in the old Noxzema TV ads and is also played at almost every wedding in America while the groom is taking off the bride's garter.
George was a devoted husband, father and friend and his fun loving nature, sense of humor and graciousness touched everyone. His wife Charlotte preceded him in death in 1986. He is survived by his son, Chuck; daughter-in-law, Margie ; his daughter, Janet; son-in-law, Michael Zboralske; six grandchildren, Britt, Erin, Zach, Casey, Kelly, and Jennifer; as well as countless friends in the Sacramento, L.A. and Milwaukee areas.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, July 27 at San Fernando Rey Mission, 15151 San Fernando Mission Blvd in Mission Hills, CA., with burial following at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, 11150 Sepulveda Blvd. Immediately following is a reception for family and friends at the Odyssey Restaurant in Granada Hills.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in the name of George P. Werth to the American Cancer Society.
