Gerald Aronson Obituary
Gerald Jay Aronson passed away at home in West Los Angeles on March 19, 2022. He is survived by his three daughters (Lisa, Ellen, and Ruth Aronson) and two grandchildren (Emily and Joshua Kneeter), who deeply loved and dearly miss him. His beloved wife, Jan Furst Aronson, predeceased Gerry in 2018. Gerry was born in 1922 in Brooklyn, New York to David and Bessie Schenkman Aronson, Russian Jewish immigrants. His mother died when Gerry was 3-years-old, and he was raised by his father, stepmother Minnie, and sister Myrtle. He recalled having a charmed life in his Brooklyn neighborhood, as he was capable of being interested in all people and all things that came his way. Gerry received his M.D. from New York University School of Medicine, his training in Psychiatry at the Menninger School for Psychiatry, and completed his psychoanalytic training at the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. In addition to his psychoanalytic practice, Gerry was Clinical Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry, UCLA School of Medicine and Consultant Psychiatrist to The RAND Corporation Social Science Division.
Gerry will be laid to rest at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills. May his memory be for a blessing.

Dearest Dad and Mom, I am writing to you, hoping this reaches you. I so miss you, everyday I think of you. We are all keeping each other company emotionally as you had hoped we would. I knew Dr. Aronson as I worked at Duttons books in Brentwood. He was a buddy of mine and I just happened to learn about his passing as I was googling Gerald Horne. My condolences to the family.

Great memories of family vacations we took together to Lake Tahoe and Balboa Island. I remember Gerry taught me to play chess.

I have met your father when I visited his home for Ellen's wedding preparations. That meeting left an lasting impression. He was incredibly bright and very caring -and your mother was so beautiful. I had no idea that meeting would bring tears to my eyes years later. Thinking of them now, I am so glad they met each other years ago and had a happy life together.o
